blog：‘We were fated to get married in a foreign country’
They met while on holiday in Tenerife, David planned to propose in Paris (although he ended up popping the question in Newcastle Airport) and now they are about to get
married abroad.
The couple, who live in Carlisle, met in 2000 and have chosen to get married in Cyprus on May 12.
Ann-Marie said: “There are lots of advantages to getting married abroad. You are guaranteed warm weather and hopefully sunshine and you can have a holiday too.”
After meeting on holiday the pair kept in touch and visited each other at weekends until Ann-Marie, originally from Fleetwood in Lancashire, started applying for jobs
in Carlisle. She now works as nursery manager at Kingmoor Nursery.
It was on a trip to Paris in December 2006 that David, an engineering manager from Anthorn, proposed although they didn’t actually make it to France before popping
the question.
Ann-Marie, 27, explains: “David put the ring in his pocket but then panicked over whether it would set off the security alarms.
“We had to go and finish our drinks before we could go through security and it was while we were in the lounge that he proposed because he was so worried.”
David, 26, told Ann-Marie that they were going to have to start saving and that he didn’t want her to be his girlfriend anymore.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said Ann-Marie. “I thought he was going to dump me but he then said that he wanted me to be his wife.”
